Santa Cruz del Quiche
NBRI supports medical professionals as they conduct medical clinics in rural mayan areas, in and around the province of Quiche, to help Guatemalan families with their medical needs. We also help host medical and surgical teams from the U.S. that volunteer their time to perform surgeries in the local state hospital.

This rugged, mountainous area is the heart of ancient Mayan society, It lies south of Mexico's Yucatan peninsula in Central America. Santa Cruz is the capital of the Quiche’ province at an altitude of 6,600 feet with a temperate “eternal spring” climate. Beautiful Lake Atitlan, surrounded by volcanic peaks is nearby. The influence of Mayan culture remains strong in this area, with brightly colored traditional fabrics and other handicrafts much in evidence. While the official language of Guatemala is Spanish, more than 20 Mayan Indian dialects are spoken as well. The open air market at Chichicastenango is a vibrant shopping experience. This area suffered greatly during the 36 year civil war that ended in 1996. The Maya have emerged from a troubled past as a quiet and dignified people, struggling daily under the burden of poverty.

San Pedro Jocopilas

NBRI has joined with Pastor Arnold in the funding of a Christian school in San Pedro Jocopilas del Quiche, Guatemala. Arnold serves as the pastor of Iglesia Torre Fuerte, a church in San Pedro. The children of the area learn about Christ and receive a quality education from K through 4th grade
